Upcoming Events at Harvest Moon Massage Therapy

List

So I was just looking at my calendar and trying to figure out how to get all of this information out to my public. I figured the easiest way (for me) would be to list it all out for you. You know how I like a good list, so here goes. Hope to see you at some of these events!

February 22nd – Jake for King!

As many of you know I am heavily involved in the Carnegie Carnival as a member of the Crewe O’ Ye Crooked Goat. This year we have nominated the fine and wonderful Jake Reed for next year’s Carnival King. We are sponsoring a fund raiser and silent auction to help Jake win. Come on out and party with the pirates!

February 22nd & 23rd – MLD Certification Finals

Unfortunately I won’t be at the Pirate Party and Fundraiser because I’ll be in Birmingham completing my Manual Lymph Drainage certification course. I am regretting missing the party, but am so excited about finally earning my certification for MLD!

March 1st – Mardi Gras Parade!

Arrrrr… long live Crewe O’ Ye Crooked Goat! If you are anywhere in north Alabama, you really should come see the spectacle! We are defending our first place parade trophy this year and we hear the competition is outdoing themselves. Of course, they haven’t seen our float yet. ARrrrrr!!!

March 14th -16th – AMTA Alabama Board Retreat

Including the word “retreat” is probably the biggest misnomer in history here. It’s really just a two and a half -day long meeting for the Board of Directors to strategize and plan the upcoming year’s activities. Can you say, sore rear end?

March 22nd – Grand Opening Celebration!

The Grand Opening Celebration for our beautiful, new space! We’ll have hors d’ oeuvres and some kind of beverage for you as you see the new place, meet and visit with all our providers. Tiny gifts and maybe even a door prize or two may be involved.

April 5th – Partner Massage Class

The very first Partner Massage Class will be held at Harvest Moon Massage Therapy & Reflexology. RSVP today as space is limited and I expect this class to fill quickly!

So that concludes the list of upcoming activities. In the meantime I’m taking appointments and working to get all the finishing details into the new space. We are still looking for someone to rent our third room. So if you know someone, now would be a great time to let them know we have a lovely space for them to rent. The sooner we get a third, the better.

Just Another Day in Paradise

Or in Sharon’s brain, take your pick.

Don’t you love it when you get an idea? I especially love when I get an idea and it’s not the right time for it, she says sarcastically.

Then I forget it for a long time and then one day something happens or you see something and it triggers a memory and you pick it up, dust it off, and realize that right now is the perfect time for this idea.

So off you go spinning and windmilling through the idea trying to make it happen. Those are the kinds of ideas I like. Not the waiting part so much, but the spinning and windmilling and making things happen part.

Anyway, on to the point of all this rambling…would saying that I had an idea be a bad idea at this point? Yes? Okay, here it is.

The Big, Exciting Idea

I am now offering a partner massage class that is open to the public.

Now I know right now there’s a lot of, “Come to our office and learn to massage your significant other for Valentine’s Day!” This is not that. Though I will sell you a gift certificate to give to your honey and sign you up for the first class.

My intention is to offer this class a few times a year for people interested in learning to help out their partner or other family members with massage techniques. Yes, there will be a large aspect of connecting with your massage partner, but mainly it’s going to be a fun learning environment where you leave with some great new skills to help your partner relax and a partner who now knows how to reciprocate with a great massage*.

We’ll try to keep the saccharine level low by design.

As an adjunct to the group classes I will also begin offering private partner massage classes for those wanting to address specific issues. Private classes will be tailored to the pair according to the issues you’re interested in working on. I’m shooting for late March to do the first group class. I’ve got my hands full with this moving offices thing right now.

If you’re interested, please let me know. Bring your mother, bring your brother, or even your significant other. Singles are welcome as well. We’ll pair you up with someone who doesn’t bite.

Stay tuned for further details. I can’t wait!

* By great massage I mean greatly improved. I in no way mean that you will be certified to do massage for money, trade, gifts, personal gain… okay, maybe personal gain in the form of you rub my back, I’ll rub yours… I think you get my meaning though. You can’t represent yourself as a massage therapist because you take this class.

Just In Case You Haven’t Heard

The New Place!
The New Place!

Just in case you haven’t heard yet, we are moving! Finally! Yay!!!

Move-in date is February 1st, 2014. Don’t worry if you have an upcoming appointment. I will let you know where you’re supposed to be in your reminder texts and emails.

New Location: 1900 Flint Road SE, Decatur, AL, it’s behind and across the street from Wiley’s Outdoor Sports just down the street from Chel’Den’s.

Current status of new location: We are still waiting on the Certificate of Occupancy from the City which is waiting on the landlord to produce a HandiRamp at the rear entrance, painting is ongoing, trades are in process for new lobby furniture, and lots of decorating decisions and activity are in progress right now. Here’s more information from my last newsletter.

We are so excited about the new location we can hardly stand ourselves. That being said we have one more office available for rent in the building. We are looking for anyone needing office space that is quiet and doesn’t raise a stench in their day-to-day operations. For full details on size and cost, please contact me at 256 603-4596.

The only unfortunate thing about the new office is the massive increase in rental costs. My goal is to keep costs level as we make the transition and begin offering expanded services. It really would help if you could spread the word about the available office space though. The sooner we get that occupied the greater the chance we’ll be able to retain our reasonable rates. I really don’t want to raise rates so get out there and spread the word!

I can’t wait to show you around the new place. You’re not going to believe how beautiful and relaxing it is. We plan on doing some sort of party so keep your eyes peeled for the invitation or just go ahead and make an appointment for February!

National Thank A Police Officer Day

Thank an officer2I was contacted recently by a friend asking me to sponsor a food tray for Decatur Police Department. Seems it’s National Thank a Police Officer Day and they want to say, “Thank You!” by making sure that all three shifts are covered for their meals while at work.

Of course I agreed with a big, old donation and some brochures.

I’ve always been an avid supporter of the police. Whatever your opinions on the police, we really don’t want to live in a world without them. Police officers are important and they do a very difficult job. Most never make the news and silently fight the demons they collect while on the job.

And while I’m thankful for all those things that our officers do every day in the line of duty, there’s one officer out there who holds a very special place in my heart. I don’t know his name, but I remember him like he was standing in front of me right now.

I was six and sporting a big, old bandage and brace on my right foot and ankle. The ankle was stitched up from a fall on some glass and I was on crutches. My mom and I had been out on post to do some business and as we were leaving the car started smoking real bad. She pulled over, looked at me and said, “Stay in the car.” Then she disappeared.

The car continued to smoke and continued to smoke and continued to smoke and even at six I was getting worried and trying to figure out how to get out of the car without getting in trouble. I wasn’t really one to disobey much, I was scared of the whoopin’.

Suddenly the door flew open and this big MP reached in and grabbed me out of the car. I remember the way his arms squeezed me as he ran away from the car.

It left an impression.

Now, to be honest the car was never actually on fire. It was a bad overheating situation, but he didn’t know that. He saw a lot of smoke, thought the car was on fire, and saw a distressed kid in the car. He did what anyone would do and what just happened to be his job. He made a friend for life and has always been a good cop ambassador to me.

I share this story with a lot of people and now here because the police get so much bad press and even though I’m one voice I think it’s important to realize that these folks are our everyday heroes and we need to start appreciating them as such. They do a hard job. One that most of us couldn’t handle.

So, THANK YOU, to all our officers out there. And thanks to My Special MP.

Ashi at Your Garden Party!

Jordan Ben doing Ashi on the portable bar system
Jordan Ben getting sassy on the portable bar system

Recently one of my Ashi sisters called wanting to rent my portable bars for an event. Turns out she got a gig at a “Girls Day Out”. She kept saying it was about swimming and eating and massage and pedicures while the guys were out hunting or fishing or doing whatever they do when they’re not around on the weekend.

This is one of the many pictures that came out of the event. I love that they were outside. The tent the host provided was huge and had curtains for privacy if the client wanted them. She was set up on grass and at first I thought that might be a problem, but apparently the portable bars handle grass alright.

I love the Garden Party aspect of this event that she did. I wish I could have gone with her, but now that we know, anyone? Ashi at your Garden Party? Family Reunion? Random outdoor event?

I’d love to bring the portables and do massage for your friends and family!
